gifts.jpgYou don’t have to go all out when buying gifts to give those you love something they will cherish. As the old adage goes, “It is the thought that counts.” Therefore, it is better concentrate on the joy and amusement the receiver will get and not on how much money you will spend.

So, if your gift budget is tight, there are many ways to save while still being able to give gifts that will be deeply appreciated. Here are some ideas:

Start a Gift Closet

… Or at least a Gift Bin or Box. If you have not done this before, try to do it now. Shop for gifts all year long. This not only can save you money — because you’ll be able to buy things on sale — but it can save you time and hassle, as well. The point here is that if you do not plan in advance, you will end up spending more.

Basically, whenever you are out and about shopping, keep an eye out for things that would make great gifts. You can often hit gift pay dirt at bazaars, special sales and out-of-town trips. Buy them now and deposit them in your special gift closet/bin/box. In this way, you can buy the items at a much lower price than it would be sold for during the holidays.

However, to make sure that you do not give the same gift twice, you should make an inventory of all your gifts. This will also allow you to keep tabs on what you have in your stock.

In addition, it is a good idea to collect wrapping paper, ribbons, and other accents as well. You can find these items at rock bottom prices right after a large gift giving event is over — think “after Christmas” sales.

Be Creative

Nothing could be more amusing than a gift that was specially made by the person who gave the gift. Personalizing your gifts is far better than giving a commercially made item. In this way, you not only create a smile on the one who receives the gift, but also save some money.

Organizing Tip

One of the best ways of saving money on gifts is to be organized. That is, before going to the store to shop for gifts, develop and bring with you a shopping list. The list should include the names of the people you are shopping for, as well as the budget alloted each person.

The bottom line is that gifts should break the bank. What matters most is that you have thought of the person on that very special day. That really should be enough to make them feel they are special to you. And if not … who needs ‘em.
